About me

My name is Jake Robinson, and I’m a photographer/videographer based out of the Washington DC metro area. I specialize in automotive, portrait, and animal photography, but I have a love and passion for all things photo/video. Whether its at the race track, at a wedding, or at the grocery store, I probably have my camera. I’m well versed in Adobe Lightroom, lightly versed in Photoshop. I’m certain that, if needed, I can learn anything necessary to complete a job. I’m not very experienced with video editing, but what I lack in that, I make up for when it comes to comfortability working as a team. I’m very confident in my ability to communicate with editors, get them exactly what they need, exactly when they need it. This page is to showcase some of, what I believe to be, my best work, and to tell you a little bit about myself. I hope you enjoy!

My Story

Growing up, I always had a passion for taking photos. My grandfather, who I never knew, travelled the world working for “60 Minutes” on ABC. I always dreamed of the life he lived, the places he saw, the people he met. He had coins from every country he had been to. Having never heard the stories from him personally, all I could do was look at the coins and imagine. I saw that future as unobtainable for me, just a dream. Photography is an expensive hobby, far beyond my means, or so I thought. At the ripe age of 24, that way of thinking changed.

In may of 2022, I attended my first Formula Drift event, FD Orlando. After years of watching as a fan, I was finally there. My best friend Nick had brought his mom’s camera, he spent every second possible taking photos and video. Didn’t sit down once. At the time we laughed, thought it was cute. Little did we know, he was building the foundation for what would eventually change all of our lives.

He kept at it, started attending grassroots events, car shows, taking every opportunity to go take photos. His ambition was contagious. Soon, another childhood friend, Jacob, joined the team, me hot on his tail. With the 3 of us working together, anything felt possible.

For 3 years, we’ve travelled the country attending every drift event possible. All the gas, food, camping, camera gear, admission to events even, completely out of pocket. We tried selling photos and videos, it worked well, but it lead to relationships feeling transactional, disingenuous. That had to stop. We started giving drivers free media, focusing mainly on building a relationship, good rapport, and gaining exposure. This decision opened a lot of doors, ultimately lead us to where we are today.

Although our venture under Saint Nick has been a success, it’s also had it’s flaws. It’s very challenging to find financial support for one media person, let alone 3. It’s also hard to source 3 media vests under a smaller team. This lead to me, on multiple occasions, travelling across the country, spending every dollar I had, just to be told “there’s not enough vests, sorry.” There’s 10 vests on the table in front of me, 15 media people in the stands, not even taking photos, but I’m still told no. That frustration, that pain, taught me a valuable lesson. If I want to chase this dream, make this reality, I need to be the one to do it. I can’t put the responsibility on my friends, I can’t leave it up to FD employee discretion, I need to make this happen, regardless of how much blood, sweat, or how many tears it takes. That’s the main reason for this page.

Whether I’m chosen or not, I appreciate your consideration. If given the opportunity, I’m confident that I can exceed expectations, quickly becoming a valuable asset to your team. For some people, this is a hobby. Some might think it’s silly. For me, this is my dream. This is my shot at a future where I can be happy. Help me make this dream a reality, and I can promise you I’ll give you everything I’ve got.

Thanks and Happy Holidays!
